About Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom
Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in Monkey Kingdom, Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family.
Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities, and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys.
Maya’s whole family is forced to relocate, where she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to lead them to untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings.
Monkey Kingdom
Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future. Featuring a rich cast of characters, including a mischievous mongoose, simple-minded langur monkeys, predatory leopards, and monitor lizards. “Monkey Kingdom” is directed by Mark Linfield (“Chimpanzee,” “Earth”) and co-directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Chimpanzee,” “Bears”).
With music from award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “Shrek” movies), Disneynature’s eighth True Life Adventure—the follow-up to 2014’s “Bears”—swings into theaters April 17, 2015. Disney Nature’s Monkey Kingdom Movie Review
I LOVED this movie! I think I was literally in about 10 minutes of the movie and forgot it was a documentary when I say this it’s a good I FORGOT. I felt as though I was thrown into a Disneynature version of Cinderella’s story, yet this was Maya’s Story.
What I found beautiful about this movie was that not only was Maya the star of this unscripted film but she did not speak a word during the entire film yet you felt as though she was talking to you throughout the film. Might I add Tina Fey did an amazing job narrating this film and her playful and soft tone brought a lot of humor and light to the film?
As a mother or father, we learn about this unconditional love Maya experiences the moment all of our little ones are born and can very much relate to the excitement and sense of responsibility she felt once Kip arrived. The pain and struggles she went through to provide for him are spot on to what human mothers sacrifice every single day.
As with many societies, Maya was subjected to the hierarchy of which she was born in and fought hard to change that once Kip was born. I would hate to give away many of the high (exciting!) and low (heart-wrenching!) points of this movie AND HOPE YOU DO GO SEE IT but just so you know I cried tears of joy, heartache and excitement throughout the film.
Interesting Fact Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom
Nothing in this film is staged or scripted, in part of the movie the filmmakers actually asked the “humans” to not bother the monkeys if they would steal food. The villagers were told they would be fully reimbursed for everything taken by the monkeys and wanted to see how they acted in a natural environment. So in actuality even in the scenes where humans were featured they were not enlisted or cast in any scenes.
Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom Now Available on DVD and Blu-ray
This mom is nothing but happy to recommend this movie to your family! My kids love animals so for them to see a movie with nothing but Monkey, excites them in a way that I could not explain. Grab your little ones’ moms and dads and head to your nearest theater, I would hate for you to miss this must-see Live-Action Monkey Movie.
ALSO! For every ticket sold during opening week (April 17-23, 2015), Disneynature will donate to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats.
WOW, so us purchasing a ticket during the first week the movie opens helps save endangered species! How awesome and helpful is that! Imagine how you and your family can be a part of something so big and important for nature and your family.
So pack up your kid’s parents and check out this beautiful and fun MonkeyKingdom movie near you and help save some Monkeys AND provide your family with a Family Night To Remember!

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a 133-acre zoo founded in 1966 and located in Los Angeles, California. The City of Los Angeles owns the entire zoo, its land and facilities, and the animals.
The Los Angeles Zoo
Meet some of the stars of the LAZoo! These monkeys can be as small as your 4-month-old and as big as your 17-year-old teenager. They all boost one common quality just like Maya where they are all very family-oriented and care deeply for one another.
Some are very musical and love to make songs together, but watch out! As soon as they start it’s hard to get them to stop, but who would want them to stop? I know I enjoyed listening to them and it was a lot of fun watching them swing back and forth as they kept to the same tune.
Even though Maya was the star of this visit there are so many other beautiful animals at the LAZoo it’s very hard to show yall 1 picture of each of them. We were able to learn many things about each animal including how long each of the animals had lived in the Zoo to how many babies each of them had.
Well, what spring if there aren’t any babies? There were so many babies around it was hard not to get caught up in the baby fever.
Just like the animals we were visiting me and Maya got very hungry, so we took it upon ourselves to get recharged and eat some delicious food. Maya seemed to be the more hungry one and ate half my cookie! Well I mean yall can’t see what she ate so we can just pretend half the cookie disappeared because of her LOL. She is known for taking a few goodies she’s not supposed to.
After recharging our batteries we took a fun ride on The Tom Mankiewicz Conservation Carousel which was our very last stop on this amazing tour.
Completed in October 2011
The Tom Mankiewicz Conservation Carousel was made possible by a generous gift from Ann and Jerry Moss. Special features include over 64 hand-carved wooden figures, exquisitely conceived and painted artwork representing the flora and fauna of California, and two universally accessible standing chariots.
Located high atop Treetops Terrace in the center of the Zoo, the carousel highlights many animals that the Los Angeles Zoo is working to save from extinction.
The ride features music identified with the “California sound” and was recorded primarily in the 1960s and 1970s by A&M Records in Los Angeles. Sponsors pledged $25,000 for each animal or chariot and are recognized for 15 years on a plaque placed at the foot of each figure.
Wow! I had a great time during my visit I can’t wait to go back with my little ones! This was a MUST-SEE location and #MONKEYKINGDOM MOVIE in LA that I’m sure your family will rave about for years and years to come.
It’s not just a zoo it’s a beautiful location where your family can enjoy so many different animals in one place and learn about where these animals came from and how endangered they are quickly becoming day by day.
What do you think about our visit to the #LAZoo? Have you visited this zoo before? If so what’s your family’s favorite part of the Zoo? Share your experiences with others below!

Wouldn’t it be perfect that I actually meet some equally naturally exciting stars of this movie? Well, won’t is flying overseas to meet the stars in this movie but actually attending the infamous #LAZoo. I love going to the zoo its always a fun experience with my kids looking at nature’s beautiful creatures whom I would never have access to see in the wild.
