Christmas Ornament Ideas for Kids

I have created some fun Christmas ornament ideas for kids to make using Kellogg’s Cereal. Kellogg’s Froot Loops are perfect for making some fun abstract art ornaments. Best of all, you can dump the cereal to decorate some cookies for Santa or refill the ornament every year.

Abstract Art Christmas Ornaments

I found all the Kelloggs Froot Loops cereal I needed from my local Sam’s Club. The Sam’s Club size Froot Loops should cover up to twenty-four kids’ ornaments, although I’m not calculating the amount of cereal that won’t actually make it into the ornament.

How to make cereal ornaments

I also came up with some fun holiday-themed Christmas ornament ideas for kids, like The Grinch, Santa, and Santa’s Belly. Hands down though my abstract art Cereal Ornaments were the crowd-pleaser. I think it’s the fact that the kids have full control over exactly which color they are using.

My daughter Esuun loves that she can pick all of her favorite colors for her ornament. My oldest daughter loves the unknown of what it will turn out as when she mixes in all the colors. The possibilities of how this ornament will look are endless.

Cereal Ornament Tips

• Please read through all of the instructions for each ornament.
• **Sealing the top of the ornament with glue is optional but reccomended**
• Not every ornament needs the cereal to be crushed before creating.
• Opt for Tacky glue for this project, it dries faster!
• Come prepared with extra decorations, ribbons, bows, glitter, you get the idea.

Abstract Cereal Art

To make 1 abstract cereal art ornament, after you have separated the cereal add about 1/2 cup of each color to individual sandwich bags. Crush the cereal using a rolling pin or the blunt side of an object. Crush the cereal until it is about the consistency of sand.

Crush the Cereal

Using a piping bag, snip the end of the tip with enough room to help funnel the cereal into the ornament. Slowly add each color your child wants until the cereal reaches the top of the ornament. Please note if your child wants to keep the exact design, the ornament must be packed before you seal the lid.

Santa Claus

Repeat this same step using the red but do not coil it too tight. Glue on a small white pom-pom and let it sit to dry. Once dry connect the two pipe cleaners by wrapping them together or by gluing them together.

Santa’s Belly

Cut a small piece of black ribbon to glue around the middle of the ornament. Continue to add on any other decorations you would like and then let it sit to dry.

The Grinch

This easy Grinch Cereal Ornament is made up of just one color, green.  To represent the Grinch’s two sizes too small heart, I used a small red pom-pom and glued it to where his heart would be. I made the Santa hat using the same method as I did with the Santa Ornament.
