Easy Fried Onions
Fight the cold weather with something delicious like my Easy Fried Onions and loaded potato soup. These easy to make fried onion rings are perfect for dipping into your favorite Idahoan® Steakhouse® Soups. If you are looking for some Easy Winter Meals With The Family then this is for you.

Easy Homemade Fried Onions
This insane cold weather we have been having in the north seems like it’s never-ending. One minute it’s beautiful outside and then the next minute your hair is half frozen just walking to the car.
Cold weather always means soup for my family, it’s the only way we can truly warm up. I’m a big believer in warming belly’s up to help keep yourselves warm. My Lola (Grandma) used to tell my dad the same thing he says to me to this day. “If you’re cold then you need to eat something! Want some steak?

Steakhouse Soups
Well, years later I find myself saying the same thing to my kids, except I tend to offer them delicious bowls of soup instead. If there was ever a soup my family would choose to dip some delicious Fried Onions in then it would definitely be Idahoan® Steakhouse® Soups.

Homemade Fried Onions
Although I’m a fan of all their soups, my family is in love with their loaded potato flavor. It’s such a thick soup that really hits the spot. It is truly an all-in-one soup where all I have to add is water, this makes those crazy dinner nights so much easier.
I mean can a mom of 4 say no to a dinner that literally cooks in minutes? Nope! Something else I also love about this is is how it really does boast those Idahoan potatoes that we have all come to know and love.

Sharing Fried Onion Rings With My Family
It doesn’t happen as often as I want it to, but with the cold weather, it means the kids can stay home and enjoy family movies together. Normally my boys are running around the neighborhood with their friends and cousins. But since the weather hasn’t been our best friend lately they have been stuck at home surviving with me.
I hate to admit it but I am happy they are forced to watch some corny family movies together. There is nothing like spending some quality family time watching corny family movies and sharing a warm dinner. As you can see my kids were able to survive each other throughout the whole movie and leave with full bellies.

Easy Fried Onions Recipe
The Loaded Potato Idahoan® Steakhouse® Soup pairs perfectly with my son’s favorite side dish, Easy Fried Onions. This recipe is perfect for those who want to quickly throw something together last minute.
All you need is a sweet yellow onion, some panko crumbs, and a few other ingredients. I found this to be a great make-ahead and freeze type of side dish.
The Fried Onions Recipe comes out extremely crispy and flavorful, just like at the restaurant! This dinner duo will make your family think you ordered out guaranteed.

Cooking and Preparation Tips
- I lined up my bowls for the dipping process as Egg, Flour, and Panko side by side. This helped cut down the mess and made it seamless for me to drop the onions on the baking sheet.
- Prepare the onions before you heat up the oil, this ensures the oil does not burn or overcook. It also helps keep the onions from overcooking or undercooking.
- Use a fork! Use 3 forks! I highly recommend you use a “wet” fork (egg mixture) and a “dry” fork (for the flour and panko). Transfer the onion using the separate forks to help cut down extra mess and wasting ingredients.

Freezing The Fried Onion Rings
This make-ahead Fried Onions is freezer stable anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. Keep this stored in an airtight container. When cooking from frozen add on an extra minute to each side of the onion rings and cook until golden brown.

How to make Fried Onions
Cut the onion into rings about 3/4 an inch thick. Push out the onions gently to separte and lay out all of the rings on a baking sheet.
Whisk 2 large eggs and milk together in a small mixing bowl, set aside. Mix seasoning salt, pepper, and ground garlic into the flour in a shallow pan, set aside. In a shallow pan add the panko crumbs and sprinkle a little salt and pepper to taste.

Dip and Fry The Onions
To start, dip the onion ring in this order. Flour, Egg Mixture, Flour, Egg Mixture, Panko. Rinse and repeat with all of the onion rings/ onion strings. In a medium, the pan heats up about 1 1/2 inches – 2 inches of oil over medium-low heat.
Once the oil is warm add the onion rings and make sure to keep them seperate while cooking, use a fork to flip the onion rings cooking for about 1 minute of each side. DO NOT OVERCOOK!
Cook until panko is golden brown, then remove and place on a plate with a paper towel. Rinse and repeat till you have cooked everything
