My family and I were recently invited to watch National Geographic’s NEW documentary “Living In The Age Of Airplanes”. The 45-minute film, filmed for the incredible giant screen experience that only Smithsonian can offer.
Takes viewers around the world and right into their own homes to experience the revolutionary way air travel has changed the world. From the places we visit the things we eat, airplanes are an integral part of daily life – even when we’re right here on the ground.

National Geographic’s “Living In The Age Of Airplanes”
I actually had no idea this museum had a movie theater in the Air and Space Museum, it was a bit of a shock for me to find out they were hosting a movie in their very own theater. The theater is located on your right just as you walk through the door. As you can see in the photo above they host big-screen movies and not just documentaries.
My kids seemed to have really enjoyed this documentary, Whenever kids think of documentaries they usually think “Oh no they are going to talk a lot!”. In this case, I believe they were shocked at how much information they learned as they were guided through this eye-catching documentary.
This isn’t your ordinary sit down and look at different planes type of documentary. This was actually a moving film about how we seem to have lost the awe-inspiring view of how airplanes were invented and are now used in our day-to-day lives.

I must say it did open my eyes to how flying was until just recently viewed as something impossible and something we thought was impossible. To think now we have countless airports and airplanes to facilitate our travel and day-to-day needs is pretty awesome.
Something so impossible is now a luxury that many of us can enjoy and use for whatever purpose we choose. From buying a pair of socks in China to fresh flowers from Africa, we use planes in more ways than one.
I brought along my 2 years old to this documentary who seemed to enjoy looking at the (sorry small spoiler!) animals. I also saw other toddlers in the movie who sat very quietly (unlike my toddler lol) during the entire movie. So it’s safe to say this movie is toddler-adult friendly.
My kids gave it 2 thumbs up and said they didn’t realize how much we really used planes for. This documentary is now playing at the below locations. If you will be in the DC or Northern Virginia area be sure to check out this awesome documentary with your family.
