Family Fun At The Kings Dominion Spring Bloom Festival
Spring is in the air! Flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and the weather is once again beautiful. To celebrate the beautiful weather I packed up my kids and a ton of snacks for a semi-quick ride to our local Kings Dominion in Richmond, Virginia. Just short of a 2-hour ride this park is located at 16000 Theme Park Way, Doswell, VA 23047.
This was actually my kid’s first trip to this park, a lot has changed since the last time I had visited the park. I was super excited to see how everything has changed and what has stayed the same.
Spring Bloom Festival
We arrived for the Spring Bloom Festival which will be a month-long event from April 16th through May 15th. When we arrived we were given a passport to use to collect stamps for the international cuisine the park would be offering during the Spring Bloom Festival.
The kiosks that offer international foods and drinks are located directly under the Eiffel Tower. I will be sharing the food and drinks I tried below, but spoiler alert! Everything was so good!
Kings Dominion Spring Bloom Festival
Something for you to look out for during your trip to Kings Dominion during the Spring Bloom Festival is the many flowers and foliage that are all over the park. I was able to find a few of them during our trip which was so pretty and so much fun to find. I was able to catch a butterfly on one of the flower beds I spotted, it was so nice to pose for me and let me take their photo.
International Cuisine
The International Cuisine was amazing! I truly felt like I was adventuring different countries with the many food offerings they had. Each Kiosk represented a different country, the Countries hosted were Italy, Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland.
With each country, you have the opportunity to try a sampling or full size of any of their food selections and drinks. For Ireland, I tried Irish coffee and chocolate, and Rad Red Wine. A super delicious chocolate cake paired with a smooth red wine was perfect! The cake was amazing and the red wine went really well with it, it was so delicious I enjoyed every bite.
Switzerland
In Switzerland they offered some delicious sweet and savory options, I went for the sweet option of course which was the Swiss Waffle and the Jam Jar 2015 White Wine.
Everything was so delicious, the waffle was so soft and went amazingly well with the Jam Jar 2015 White Wine. The wine was very light and brought out the fruit flavor in the strawberries on the waffle. I managed to fork at this while the kids walked around the Eiffel Tower. One word for this YUM!
Italy
This means a lot coming from me but the tiramisu parfaits at the Italy kiosk is to die for! It was hands down the best tiramisu I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot in my life.
The dessert was decadent yet light, and coffee was not overpowering and blended well with the cream. Amazingly the Honey Dew Hard Cider paired well with this sweet treat and was a refreshing break from tasting the wines. I highly recommend yall try this when you go!
Sticky Bun Bread Pudding
I guess by now you have caught on I have a major sweet tooth and ended up trying all the desserts at the 4 kiosks. Well, thank goodness I did right because I get to tell you all about them! For my last tasting, I went after the Apple Sticky Bun Bread Pudding. Yum! It was warm, soft, and stuffed with delicious apples! If you are a bread pudding lover you need to try this!
Now that you have the 411 on the international cuisine, let’s take a look at how you can maximize your next trip to Kings Dominion!
Tip 1: Fast Lane Plus
If you and your family love the roller coasters at this park, then your family will love having a Fast Pass Plus during your visit. With the Fast Lane Plus, you get to jump the lines meaning you turned your 1-2 hour wait for a ride, into a 5-20 minute wait.
I was able to jump the lines with my boys for the coasters they dared to brave during our visit. It was so nice to jump the line which gave us so much more time to do other things in the park. Great investment for sure if you are looking to ride the roller coasters at this park!
Tip 2: Refillable Cups
Grab some of these Refillable Cups available in Orange and Green. For big families like mine, we found it to be a great deal to snag 3 cups which ended up being $10.99 each when you buy 3 or more. We were able to get free refills throughout the day of our purchase.
Every refill throughout the rest of the season will be just $1 for whatever you would like. If you would like free refills throughout the entire season you can purchase the Orange Cup for $24.99 each. Such a great deal!
Tip 3: Bring Help!
As a mom of 4 kids, I usually bring 1 or 2 adults along with us to help with everyone getting a chance to do whatever ride they would like. Their ages are 3, 7, 9 and 10 years old which mean some can or can’t ride certain rides. I find bringing an extra adult along helps with everyone getting their chance to ride every ride they want at least once.
Tip 4: Get The Kids Height Measured
This will help you know which rides your kids are able to ride on, as well as if they qualify for the Fast Lane Plus Passes. My boys were just the right height for the Fast Lane Plus passes which meant we all got to ride the roller coasters together. Since we knew my daughter’s height it actually helped us plan which side of the park we would take her to along with her sister.
Tip 5: Explore the many foods the park offers
My kids had a blast sampling foods around the park, their favorite had to have been lunch time and dessert. There are so many places to choose from throughout the park, some familiar and some unique to the park. My kids had some classic park food, along with some Panda Express. My 9 year old and I split a plate from them, the portion was so huge it was enough to satisfy both of use.
Tip 6: Ride a roller coaster with a loved one or a friend
Just because it’s more fun to see your loved one or a friend scream like bloody murder when you hit those quick turns or go upside down. It was so much fun to go with my boys they really loved it. We rode the Valcano Rollercoaster twice! I loved our Fast Lane Plus passes, it really helped us save time by letting us jump to the front of the lines.
Tip 7: Visit the petting Zoo
Make sure you head over to Snoopy land while you are in the park and visit some animal friends. They are all available to pet from 12pm-5pm during the Spring Bloom Festival. My kids had a blast walking around and petting the many soft and fuzzy animals.
Tip 8: Try the Family Friendly Hands on Activites
Keep your eyes peeled while in Snoopy Land, you can catch some booths with family friendly activities to enjoy. My kids built their own monster trucks and pull cars. They were given a complete set to work with as well as a hammer, apron ,and safety goggles.
Tip 9: Sit back and enjoy the Live Entertainment
Sit back and enjoy the live entertainment that the park offers, everything from performances to live music that is offered throughout the park. We were able to snack on some Board Walk fries as we had fun listening to some oldies.
Tip 10: Have Fun!
Lastly, I would suggest just have fun! My kids really enjoyed their first visit to Kings Dominion and we are already planning to go back for the July Star-Spangled Banner Celebration. So make sure you keep your eyes peeled for our live Instagram and Twitter updates at the park during our next visit so you can follow along with us.
There will be more upcoming events/festivals at the park, including Memorial Weekend Salute (5/28-5/30), Star Spangled Celebration (7/2-7/4), KidsFest (7/16-7/24), BBQ and Brewfest (8/6-8/21), and Great Pumpkin Festival (9/19-10/30). Which event have you been to our would like to bring your kids too? When’s the last time you visited your local Kings Dominion Theme Park?
Below are some other great photos for you to enjoy, my kids truly did have a great time and loved sharing their memories with all of you. We hope you enjoyed reading along and following their adventure.
