A Family Trip To The Farm In Bluemont Virginia
There is something about the crisp fall air that makes taking our annual trips to local farms that much more sweet. Every year my family picks a local farm to visit and celebrate my son Anthony’s birthday.
This year we visited our local Bluemont, Virginia farm location called Great Country Farms. Between the amazingly fresh-pressed apple cider and the freshly cooked apple cider donuts, it’s a wonder we just don’t stay here forever.
Great Country Farms in Bluemont Virginia
At the Great Country Farms, there is so much to do and see while your family visits. There are fun things to do on the farm that the whole family would love. Everything from a huge lake where you can actually fish in.
To the pumpkin canon where you can shoot out real pumpkins at fun targets, that was the boy’s favorite thing to do. There are tons of slides for all ages and a huge playground equipped with a huge chessboard.
Apple Picking at the Farm
Depending on what time you go to the farm each season, sometimes you can get lucky and pick some fresh fruits. I love going during apple picking season which offers some delicious farm fresh apples. I tend to use my apples in my kids favorite Apple Crisp dessert.
Visiting the Farm in the Fall
During the fall time, you can find apples, pears, and pumpkins to pick as well as some other fresh vegetables which you can find in their little market on the farm. I’m super guilty for buying 3 gallons of their fresh pressed apple cider and having them hold it for me. They sell fast and they only have a certain amount they make and package each day.
Pig Races at the Farm
Have you ever seen a pig race in person before? If you haven’t then you will be amazed at how competitive these little and big guys can be. The race announcer is a hoot and really helps get the crowd excited about all of the contenders.
The pigs all have some clever names and all of them range in different sizes. The kids and I couldn’t help but scream and cheer for all the piggies to win or at least make it around the track one time.
Nature Valley Biscuits with Almond Butter
Great Country Farms is a 400-acre working farm situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside the village of Bluemont, VA. I like to make sure I bring enough snacks and juices for the kids to enjoy while on the farm.
Between the pig races and the many acres of farmland we play on, I like to make sure the kids have delicious snacks to eat. I like to pack the Nature Valley Biscuits for the kids to be able to grab and go play while they eat.
Grab and Go Farm Snacks
They love the many different flavors Nature Valley offers now, Cocoa Almond Butter and Almond Butter. They are so kid-friendly for our grab-and-go snack lifestyle and such a breeze to pop into a jacket pocket before we leave the car.
I am able to find my favorite Nature Valley products at my local Walmart store. I find my delicious snacks in the cereal aisle where they sell granola bars.
Visiting the Farm in Bluemont, Virginia
Our trip to the farm was as always, a super fun time, This year we got to adventure out a little more on it and see a little more of the 400-acre farm. There was even a live band playing which we listened to as we sat in the grass eating out snacks and drinking our apple cider. I had a blast shooting pumpkins with the kids and I think they had an awesome time picking their own pumpkins.
When was the last time your family visited a farm? What was your family’s favorite part about visiting the farm?

Okay, the pumpkin shooter is too awesome! I would want to shoot that thing for hours!
I grew up on a farm. Of all the animals we raised, the pigs were my favorite. I’ve never actually seen these Nature Valley biscuits, but I love other Nature Valley products. When I get back to the states I’ll look for them.
This looks like a great trip for the kids. I grew up visiting my grandparents on a farm and I miss it so much.
I grew up on a big farm and I thought it was the only way of life. Now that I have grandkids and they have never lived in a farm, I try to find places like this to show them there is another way of life. They love animals and I’m sure they would love those apples.
I bet you all had fun! A trip to the farm is always fun to do with the family. It’s one of our fave things to do in the fall.
