Game Day With Skittles Inspired Snacks
It’s finally the big day! It’s Game Day baby! Oh yeah, any and every excuse for all of us moms to make tons of snacks that everyone loves. Of course, they do, it’s snacks, and who doesn’t like snacks?
Now that the big day is finally here, it’s time to whip out some of my quick and easy recipes to keep the kids pumped up and full. For this game day, I decided to use a little bit of inspiration, from my kid’s favorite candy. Skittles Candy of course!
Deals on Game Day Snacks
While I was at the Dollar General store the day before I scored an amazing deal on these babies. So I loaded up and grabbed some other supplies and headed down the field (the aisle) and scored a touchdown at the register. Do you remember when you used to throw skittles in the air and try to catch them in your mouth?
Wait I still do that HAHA sorry. You’d think after all of these years of practice I would have it down pact now. Oh well, as embarrassing as it is to admit, I’m still at about the same skill level as I was when I was 9 years old.
The Best Game Day Snack Ideas
Back to the snack ideas, I figured, why not throw the kid’s favorites together and make a fun snack? Bam! Genius right? I grabbed 2 bags of kettle popcorn, a bag of white chocolate chips, a bag of skittles, and some marshmallows. Oddly this combination is the bomb!
I popped the 2 bags and set them in a large pan. Melted down my chocolate chips in a double broiler method, poured it over top of the popcorn and stirred. Added in the Skittles Candy and then the marshmallows. Let dry for 10 minutes and then popped them into a cute football popcorn bag.
Skittles Popcorn
Of course, there was more than popcorn at this shindig, we had some yummy cheesesteak sliders. By the way, might I add that using the Hawaiian rolls tends to be my secret weapon/ingredient? I keep it simple for the kids since they don’t like veggies in their sliders, so I leave those out and boost the flavor by using a sweet bun. Seems to work out perfectly for my crew.
How to make Skittles Popcorn
To make the skittles popcorn, you will need to melt white chocolate using the double boiler method. Alternatively you can use the microwave, simply add the white chocolate to a microwave safe bowl. Place it in the microwaves and cook it in 30 second intervals stirring in between until it is fully melted.
After you have your melted chocolate you will need a lightly salted popcorn as your base. I personally like to pop our own popcorn using our popcorn maker. However you can use whatever you have on hand.

Now is the fun part! Just add the melted white chocolate all over the popcorn and give it a good stir with a sturdy spatula or wooden spoon. Now add in your skittles and give it another good stir before the chocolate starts to set.
After you have it looking the way you want, you can just set it aside to firm up until the party starts. I recommend making this the day of the party, as it tastes best the day you make it.
Easy Game Day Sliders
My 10-year-old says that a party isn’t a party if we don’t have pretzels, so of course, I obliged and made sure there was a huge bowl for everyone to pick from. I happened to find these super cute food boxes, all of the snacks and juice drinks fit perfectly.
I would have put a cupcake in with the cheesecake sliders but the kids would have had a heart attack. They hate when their food touches each other. It’s okay sometimes but in this case, it was a no-go zone.
Chocolate Skittles Cupcakes
The star of the show had to be the moist Chocolate Skittles Cupcakes. The cupcakes were so easy to make, my little ones were able to help out on this chore. With green-colored vanilla icing, and chocolate fudge footballs, topped with Skittles, I think my kids were in heavy.
By the way, there were almost no casualties in cupcakes during the making of this party. I managed to avoid this by letting them have at it with the extra icing we had left over.
Football Cupcakes for Game Day
Although I feel as though there was enough sweetness going on these cupcakes, I had a nice-sized bowl full of marshmallows and skittles candy ready for anyone to use.
Game Day Snacks Table
I had a lot of fun with this sweet theme, I feel like I was able to keep it sweet yet not a sweetness overload. Yes, that’s possible, I learned that the hard way a long time ago. As long as you balance the sweetness with other flavors your good to go!
Skittles Football Chocolate Cupcakes
What are your game day traditions? Do you like to cook up a storm or keep it small and delicious? Oh if you would like to see a step-by-step on how I decorated the cupcakes you can look below.
How To Decorate Football Cupcakes
To start we will need a chocolate or vanilla cupcake, and green icing ready to use in a piping bag. To have a grass effect you will need a small tip on your piping bag or you can use a zip lock bag and poke the tip with a toothpick or sharp knife.
Starting around the sides we will start piping green icing, in dotting motion on the cupcake, you will be gently squeezing some of the icings out and then pulling it in an upward motion. See the photos above for reference.*
It does not have to be perfect, you can just add the icing and then go back with a toothpick later to break it up and give it a more grassy appearance. Then you will add a nice chunk of your chocolate frosting in the middle of the grass. Please be careful with the shaping of the footballs or your kids will make fun of you as mine did.
Make sure to completely smooth out the chocolate footballs with the toothpick. They taste good either way but they look awesomesauce when you get them super smooth. I suggest warming up the icing just slightly before decorating, to help the icing blend together when you are putting it on.
