Good Hearts, Good Hands

I think it’s a rite of passage as a child to hear your grandparents start off their infamous rants with “back in my day.” As a child, I just kept thinking “oh no here we go again.” It wasn’t until later on in life that I would look back at some of my grandfather’s stories and realize he was more right than wrong. Things have changed, and some not all for the better in our communities.

Nowadays it isn’t strange to live somewhere for more than 10 years and never meet your neighbors. It’s a huge topic some of us local football moms talk about and would love to help change. Thankfully, Allstate had the same idea and is ahead of us with their Good Hearts, Good Hands project.

Youth Empowerment

Allstate believes that young people aren’t waiting for change to happen, they’re creating it. As you can see in this video, Allstate is encouraging young people to make a difference in their communities.

These youth are not only making an impact, but they’re also developing important social and emotional learning skills like problem-solving, empathy, and teamwork. These will help them continue being successful later on in life.

One of the most inspiring things is that Allstate is doing this because dedication to the communities where they live and work is core to who they are.

This initiative inspired my family to get together to hand out some homemade cookies to our neighbors. I want my kids to be more involved with their community and meet our neighbors while spreading some holiday cheer. It was a small gesture from some big hearts and little hands. The girls had a blast making the cookies and getting creative with the designs.

Giving Cookies to Neighbors

It was important to make sure the kids got a chance to meet the neighbors and say hello to potential new friends. The faces on some of the recipients were so happy. It’s amazing what a small gesture can do! I believe the best part about this activity was when we would run into a home that had kids.

Get Involved in your Community

They would want to grab a cookie and join in on the fun by helping knock on the next neighbor’s door. We ended up turning into a kid cookie train, it was delicious and fulfilling fun for sure! This idea was such a hit that I decided to make this a new tradition.

If you haven’t already, scroll up to view the video, or head over HERE to get inspired. I hope it helps you and your kids get involved in your community and share their good hearts.
