Tips & Tricks for Perfect Cinnamon Rolls
These homemade cinnamon rolls are super easy to whip up, but with a few simple tricks, you can take them to the next level and get that bakery-style finish.
- Use room temperature ingredients – Cold milk, eggs, or butter can slow down the yeast and make your dough rise unevenly.
- Let the dough rise properly – Don’t rush this step! A good rise is the secret to soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls.
- Don’t overfill – It’s tempting to pack in extra cinnamon sugar, but too much can make the filling spill out and burn.
- Cut with floss or a sharp knife – For clean swirls, use unflavored dental floss or a sharp serrated knife to slice your rolls.
- Bake until just golden – Overbaking will dry them out. Pull your from scratch cinnamon rolls from the oven when they’re lightly golden on top.
- Frost while warm – Spreading the glaze over warm rolls allows it to melt slightly and soak into all the layers.

Storing & Make-Ahead Tips
These homemade cinnamon rolls taste amazing fresh out of the oven, but they also store really well! Keep leftovers in an airtight container for a couple of days at room temp, or pop them in the fridge for up to five days. **
** Just warm them up before serving and they’ll be soft, fluffy, and just as dreamy as day one.
Want to make mornings even easier? Prep the rolls the night before, cover them up, and let them rest in the fridge overnight. In the morning, just let them rise on the counter while you sip your coffee, then bake until golden. It’s the perfect trick for lazy mornings or holiday hosting!
