How to Store Homemade Pop-Tarts

If you find yourself with leftover homemade frosted cinnamon brown sugar pop tarts, here’s how to store them:

  1. Room Temperature: For short-term storage (up to 2-3 days), you can keep the pop-tarts in an airtight container at room temperature. Be sure they are completely cooled before storing to prevent moisture buildup.
  2. Refrigerator: To extend their shelf life, store your pop tarts in the refrigerator. Place them in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic wrap to keep them fresh for up to a week.
  3. Freezer: To keep your pop tarts for an even longer period, freeze them individually in airtight containers or wrapped in plastic wrap. They’ll stay good for up to three months. When ready to enjoy, reheat them in the toaster or microwave.

Ingredients

  • 2 rolls of pie crust
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla, divided
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 stick of butter, softened
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, incorporate the powdered sugar, milk, 1/2 tbs cinnamon, and 1/2 tbs vanilla. Set aside.
  2. In another mixing bowl, incorporate the brown sugar, butter, and remaining cinnamon and vanilla.
  3. On a flat floured surface, roll out the pie crust to 1/4” thick, and cut it into half. Set one half aside and roll out the other half.
  4. Lay thin half of the crust on a sheet pan with half of it lying off the side. Fill the bottom half of the crust with half of the cinnamon sugar filling.
  5. Fold over the top crust and crimp or pinch the crust shut. Make sure to remove the air in the tart as you seal it.
  6. In a cup or a bowl, beat the egg to create an egg wash. Brush the top of the tart with the egg wash.
  7. Using a toothpick, poke holes to allow air to escape as you cook.
  8. Place the sheet pan in the oven at 350°  for 8 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool to room temp and then pour the icing over the tart.
  10. Slice the tart into the portion size desired.
