Moving Tips For First Time Home Buyers

If you are like me and have started your First Time Home Buyer journey, then you will love these super helpful Moving Tips For First Time Home Buyers. Buying your first home can be stressful, especially if you are moving furniture, clothes, and valuables for a family of 5.

Let’s just say we have a lot of stuff already, so when it comes to moving we will certainly need help. While moving can be stressful, there are so many ways to make long-distance moving a smooth and low-cost process.

5 Moving Tips For First Time Home Buyers

  1. Plan The Date.
  2. Collect boxes, or moving supplies.
  3. Get a sitter for the kids and pets.
  4. Budget and Downsize as needed.
  5. Hire a trusted local moving company.

Plan The Moving Date

It’s a great idea to plan for your big moving day to be a few days after you close on the home. This gives you time to do last-minute changes, painting, additional inspections, and finishing touches.

This also gives you more buffer time in case you run into a paperwork issue or last-minute changes to the contract. Which can sometimes take an additional day or so to finalize.

Collect Moving Supplies

I’m a super planner when it comes to organizing my moves. I like to collect moving supplies leading up to my big move day.

Collect boxes, or moving supplies that you can utilize to organize and label everything. Then place the boxes/items in the designated rooms for the movers to easily grab and stack.

Tip: Don’t throw away that Amazon box, or that huge diaper box! These items can help cut the cost of moving down and give you a jump start on packing. I like to pack items I am not using or use the boxes to collect trash and donation items as I sift through everything.

Hire A Sitter

Trust me when I say, you will want to hire a sitter for the kids and pets. It’s easier to move things around or even direct movers when they aren’t working around small humans and pets.

Do you have any teens, or friends and family who can help? Do not be afraid to ask for help when it comes to moving, the more help you get the quicker the job will get done.

Budget and Downsize As Needed

Set a budget and stick to it, allowing for some wiggle room to cover any unexpected last-minute expenses. Everyones moving budget is different, consider packing up your own home and collecting moving boxes from friends and family.

I know how hard it can be to part with certain items, but you should consider downsizing and donating things you won’t need in your new home.

While it’s hard to part with certain items, if it means it would help you stay within budget, it is a good idea to consider downsizing. It feels like Spring Cleaning when you are going through items and deciding what to bring and what you can part with.

Hire A Trusted Local Moving Company

Hire trusted movers who provide care and service to their customers. Always compare prices when choosing your perfect moving company for this big move. Always make sure to stay within your budget and always communicate what services you need with the moving company.
