Waffle Pops

Looking for a fun and easy snack recipe that will make your kids’ faces light up? Say hello to waffle pops! These playful treats are basically waffles with a twist. You cook them with popsicle sticks in the middle, making them perfectly portable for little hands.

They’re a fantastic back to school snack, a creative lunch box recipe idea, or a delicious afterschool snack that your kids will beg for again and again.

Waffle Pops Recipe

There’s something magical about turning classic waffles into bite-sized pops. They’re not only adorable, but they also let kids get creative with their toppings. From colorful sprinkles to chocolate drizzle or even a swirl of icing, the sky’s the limit!

I topped mine with a combination of chocolate and vanilla icing and added rainbow sprinkles for that extra pop of fun.

Waffle Pops Ingredients

These easy kid-friendly recipe treats aren’t just for breakfast they’re perfect as a snack recipe idea anytime your little ones need a tasty pick-me-up. Whether it’s a waffle pops snack for lunch boxes or a playful afterschool snack, they’re guaranteed to bring smiles.

  • all-purpose flour
  • brown sugar
  • baking powder
  • alt
  • an egg
  • milk
  • vegetable oil
  • vanilla extract

Cooking Tips

Be careful not to overfill your waffle iron. You only need to add just enough batter to cover the popsicle stick, this ensures even cooking. Also, a light coat of non-stick cooking spray will make removing your waffle pops a breeze, and letting them cool slightly before decorating prevents icing from melting off.

For extra fun, try cutting your waffles into hearts, stars, or other playful shapes. When it comes to flavors, the possibilities are endless!

Flavor Idea’s

  • Peanut Butter & Banana – a creamy peanut butter drizzle with banana slices for a healthy afterschool snack.
  • Dubai Chocolate Delight – drizzle rich dark chocolate over your waffle pops, then sprinkle with a pinch of finely chopped pistachios and a dusting of edible gold shimmer for a luxurious, Middle Eastern inspired treat.
  • Fruity Fun – top with yogurt, fresh berries, or even a dollop of jam.
  • Decadent Dessert – add chocolate chips, caramel drizzle, or mini marshmallows for a sweet treat.
  • Savory Twist – sprinkle cheese or herbs and pair with ham or turkey slices for a unique lunch box recipe idea.

Storing Waffle Pops

One of the best things about waffle pops is how easy they are to make ahead of time. To keep them fresh, store cooled waffle pops in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

If you want to make them in advance for a back to school snack or afterschool snack, you can also refrigerate them for up to 5 days, just let them come to room temperature or give them a quick warm-up in the toaster or microwave before serving.

Freeing Waffle pops – Longer Storage

For a longer storage time you will need to wrap each pop individually in plastic wrap or foil. Then place them in a freezer safe bag for up to 1 month. When you’re ready to enjoy, simply thaw at room temperature or warm gently, then decorate with your favorite toppings for a fresh, fun snack recipe idea anytime.

Other Supplies

  • Lollipop sticks or stiff skewers
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Waffle Batter:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, combine the egg, almond milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Divide the batter into separate bowls based on the number of colors you want to make. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix until the desired color is achieved.

2. Cook the Waffles:

  • Preheat your waffle maker according to its instructions.
  • Lightly grease the waffle maker if necessary.
  • For each waffle, pour a small amount of batter onto the hot waffle maker.
  • Close the waffle maker and cook until golden brown (about 3-5 minutes, depending on your maker). Insert a stick while the batter is not fully cooked to ensure it is solid.

3. Make the Glaze:

  • In a bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and milk. Adjust the milk for your desired consistency.
  • Divide the glaze into two small bowls. Add pink food coloring to one, and leave the other one plain.

4. Prepare the Chocolate Dip:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips.
  • Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until you have a smooth mixture.

5. Assemble the Waffles:

  • Dip the top of each waffle lollipop into the chocolate dip, allowing any excess to drip off.
  • Immediately drizzle or dip in the colored glaze, and top with sprinkles if desired. Use a spoon to drizzle pink and white glaze onto the waffles, have fun and create different designs!

6. Serve:

  • Arrange the waffle lollipops upright in a container or on a platter for a decorative presentation. Enjoy your colorful and delicious spring treat!
