The Sanderson Sister’s Cupcakes
These Sanderson Sister’s Cupcakes are made using either boxed cake mix or a homemade chocolate cupcake recipe. Depending on how much time you have, you can either make them from scratch or grab a trusty boxed chocolate cake mix.
I like to make my buttercream frosting from scratch, however, if you are looking for a more simplified recipe. I suggest using these boxed cake mixes and canned frosting for this recipe.
How To Make Hocus Pocus Cupcakes
To make these cupcakes I used my homemade chocolate cupcakes recipe. However, you can use a boxed cake mix to save time! For more moist chocolate cupcakes.
I suggest you substitute the water ingredient the boxed cake mix calls for with milk. It adds more moisture to your boxed cake mix and bumps up the flavor.
Please note that your cupcakes will come out more dense and moist if you use the tip I suggested. They will not be as light and fluffy as they would be if you used water instead of milk.

How To Make A Witch Hat
I made the witch hats using oreo’s, Hershey kisses, and frosting. It is super easy to make, first, you will start by unwrapping the Hershey kisses.
Then you will need to separate the Oreo cookies and remove the cream filling. Set it aside to use for another recipe later.
Use a small dollop of frosting and then quickly place the Hershey kiss on top. Allow the frosting to set before you start to move the witch hat around. It should only take a few minutes for the frosting to harden.
Winifred “Winnie” Sanderson Cupcake
This Winifred Sanderson cupcake features her beautiful bright orange hair topped with a matching witch hat. To make her hair, I used a from scratch buttercream recipe that I found on Sally’s Baking Addiction.
I used orange gel food coloring, and a bit of red to make this bright red. I suggest you start with orange and just dot in the red until you achieve the orange color you are looking for.
She is spooky beautiful, I gave her a basic frosting base and then just pipped her iconic 2 messy buns.
Mary Sanderson Cupcake
The Mary Sanderson Cupcake features a purple frosting and a matching witches hat. To make her iconic hair, I started with a basic frosting top. Then I gave her a piped messy side bun, pulling away from the cupcake so that it becomes tilted.
Then I topped it off with the edible purple witches hat, which sat nicely as the frosting started to harden.
Sarah Sanderson Cupcake
Oh, Sarah! Thankfully we don’t have to hide our children to enjoy this Sarah Sanderson Cupcake. This witch cupcake is made with a basic frosting top.
To make her hair, I started at the top of the cupcake in the middle. Then I swiveled the piping bag down one side to give her hair some of that beautiful blonde wavy hair texture she is known for.
I repeated it on the other side and then topped her with the matching edible witches hat.
