Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls Ingredients
- Pillsbury crescent roll dough tube
- unsalted butter – melted a little bit
- Canned pumpkin, not pie filling
- light brown sugar
- pumpkin pie spice
A super easy cinnamon rolls recipe that requires no time to rise. These pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls are made with fresh pumpkin and covered in a delicious homemade cream cheese frosting. Make this recipe year-round for a delicious pumpkin-inspired treat.
How to make pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls
To start, we will need to preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Prepare a 9-inch pie pan with non-stick spray, setting it aside for later. Unroll the crescent roll sheet and push all of the seams together, making one solid sheet.
In a small bowl, combine the semi-melted butter and pumpkin. Spread the pumpkin mixture over the entire sheet of dough, reaching all of the edges using a pastry brush. Or a large spoon, evenly spreading out the mixture throughout the dough.
Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Filling
In another small bowl, combine the brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice. Then, sprinkle all over the top of the sheet, reaching all of the edges. Roll the sheet up from the short end to the other short end.
Do not apply too much pressure while rolling the dough. I recommend keeping an eye on how tightly you roll the dough, keeping an even amount of pressure on each side. If you need to stretch out the dough just gently pull on the side you want to thin out.
How to Cut the Dough
To cut your slices, use a string such as a plain floss or butcher string, tie it around the log and pull tight until a slice has been made. This will prevent your slices from being smashed with a knife. Do this until you have made 8-9 slices.
Alternatively: If you do not have any plain floss or butcher’s string, use the sharpest knife you have in the kitchen to cut these. Be careful to cut it with slow back-and-forth motions, avoiding applying too much pressure while cutting.
Bake the Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls
Arrange the cinnamon rolls in your pan, giving them plenty of space to expand in the oven. Bake them as directed on the recipe card, or until golden brown on top. I would keep a close eye on these because every oven is unique and the cooking times can vary.
Cream Cheese Frosting
- cream cheese – room temperature
- unsalted butter – softened
- salt
- powdered sugar
- milk
- vanilla extract
While the pumpkin cinnamon rolls are baking, we will start preparing the frosting. Using a mixer, beat together the cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Add in the salt, vanilla, and milk, then slowly add in the powdered sugar. If your glaze is too thick, add a little more milk.
When your rolls are finished cooking, let them cool for a few minutes on the counter before drizzling them with the frosting all over the top. These are best served warm. Enjoy!
