Traveling doesn’t always have to be hard, but for some reason having 4 kids on the road for more than 1 minute, creates cabin fever. Finding ways to accommodate my kids has been a feat that I have been battling for 9 years now. With every trip, I have slowly perfected the must-haves on each trip no matter how long we end up in the car.

I found our perfect cell phone at Walmart located in the Cell Phone Isle in Electronics. After scouting the many prepaid plans and phones we narrowed our search down to the Walmart Family Mobile Service station. I gravitated towards this area because of its awesome phone plan.

Did you know you could activate a phone and have a monthly service for just $29.88? Walmart Family Mobile service is $29.88/month (for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data! YEP! This includes TALK, TEXT, and DATA. I mean geez it was a no-brainer for this mom.

As with most things are with my daughter picking a cellphone was a long process, my daughter does not take things like this lightly. I mean sometimes we will stand in the grocery aisle to pick out Lunchables for about 10 minutes as she examines every box looking at what candies it has and what juice’s they offer.

As she examined all of the available phones on display, she held them in her hand to see how they felt. The winner of this competition of cell phone was the Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro.

This cell phone has it all, it’s responsive screen is quick and is perfect for my daughter’s little fingers. The phone interface is very easy to use and is basically a smaller version of my Samsung galaxy 5s. This next thing has to be my favorite part of the phone.

Since we get unlimited Talk, Text, and Data she is able to watch Netflix as we drive. A lifesaver if you ask me, Netflix is jam-packed with kids’ movies and shows. She always has a huge library to browse through and choose from. Do you have a Summer Road Trip Survival Kit? What’s in yours?

  1. Looks like a pretty complete list of road trip survival items, now if I could just get time off, then I’d be in business! LOL 🙂

  2. These are great items for a survival kit for a summer road trip. It is so important to make sure you have snacks and a cell phone so the kids can use good apps. Thanks for sharing.

  3. A responsive screen isn’t something you really consider…until you don’t have one. Then it’s no good at all if you DON’T have one!

  4. When we’re going on a road trip I always make sure I pack lots of snacks, diapers, change of clothing in case of an accident, and lots of games.

  5. we just got back off our last road trip for the summer.. This would have been so handy to have before that. I’ve wondered about switching to walmart’s phone plans.

  6. In my backseat we have plenty of snacks, water, books, doodle pads and pens/markers, an old digital camera so she can take photos outside the window or in the car and some of her toys.

  7. We drive to our boat on the coast nearly every week-end. It’s a 3 1/2 hour trip. So snacks and sandwiches are a must. My husband doesn’t want to stop and add to time on the road.

  8. I love the idea of having unlimited data. When we were traveling a few months ago my boys had to play the games on their tablets. I had wifi on my phone so I was able to do some of my social media work.

  9. I remember long road trips when I was a kid and being so bored. I could have used a few of these things to keep me happy. Now that I’m older I love road trips!

  10. Packing all the essentials including the entertainment is so important to make roadtrips enjoyable. My kids are still young and get pretty cranky in the car, so I often need to make sure they’ve got snacks, tablets and movies to make them last til the next rest .
