What is Regal Cinema’s 4DX Experience?

4DX provides moviegoers with an immersive, multi-sensory experience, allowing the audience to connect with movies through motion, vibration, water, wind, snow, lightning, scents, and other special effects that enhance the visuals on-screen.

Each 4DX auditorium incorporates motion-based seating synchronized with more than 20 different effects and optimized by a team of skilled editors, maximizing the feeling of immersion within the movie, beyond the limits of audio and video.

Each film is brought to life with enhanced visuals, sound bubbles, and more! Since every film is different, each 4DX experience is unique. For example, when my family and I saw The LEGO Movie 2: The 2nd Part film, there were flashing lights and the seats vibrated.

In Disney’s Live-Action Aladdin film, there were lots of seat vibrations and flashing lights. While Aladdin and Jasmine soared on their Magic carpet in this film our seats moved with them and in other scenes.

*Disclosure: If your child has sensory sensitivities please be advised this 4DX experience includes.*

  • Flashing lights
  • The seats will move
  • Air will shoot out next to your head
  • The seats will vibrate and tickle you
  • The seats tilt back and forth
  • There is a possibility of there being spurts of smells (ie. Bananas)
  • It is possible to be sprayed with water (You can turn this feature off per seat if you wish)
  • There might be fog or bubbles

Fangirling Moment

Look, I’m not going to lie to you. As soon as I heard they would be making a live-action Aladdin film I pretty much flipped the F out. Aladdin is one of my all-time favorite animated movies, which I pretty much watched throughout my whole childhood (cough) and adulthood. Don’t judge me.

With rumors swelling about Will Smith playing the Genie and new song additions to the film, you can say this fan girl was slightly worried.

As a die-hard fan of the animated version I knew going in it wouldn’t be exactly the same. An insider to this film assured me that the sets were grand, and to expect the end result to be just as grand as the animated version.

Will Smith is the Genie and Mena Massoud is Aladdin in Disney’s live-action ALADDIN, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Why You Should See Aladdin in 4DX!

First off, why not? It’s that virtual reality experience without having the hassle of that huge screen hanging from your head. Okay well, let me give you some real reasons why you HAVE to see Aladdin in 4DX. First off it’s amazing!

This was the most interactive film we have attended in 4DX actually. The opening scene was amazing and we floated around the desert and through the Cave Of Wonders.

If you want to fly on a magic carpet and feel as though you are running around Agrabahin with Aladdin and Jasmine then this is the experience for you. It’s magical, it’s interactive, it’s awe-inspiring, it’s the way to go with movie experiences trust me! The Prince Ali song will make you never want to see a film unless it’s in 4DX ever again.

Is Aladdin Safe For Kids?

This film is completely safe for kids, however, I will admit there were some slow parts to the film. In the animated version, there are a lot of colors and interactive scenes where younger kids would be more engaged. However, in this Live-Action version, they decided to beef up the storyline and include more talking scenes between the characters.

My 6-year-old grew a bit bored between some scenes, for example, the newly added scene where Genie (played by Will Smith) visits Jasmine’s Chambers to speak to the handmaid. Esuun didn’t understand what they were talking about or the point of the scene.

My 10-year-old, however, found this scene to be silly and understood why Genie was so nervous to talk to Jasmine’s Handmaiden.

In conclusion, this film is safe for kids but I would say that it is more suited for a more mature audience. I would say ages 8 and up would find this film more enjoyable. It’s not that my 6-year-old didn’t enjoy it, it’s that she didn’t comprehend many of the scenes and grew a bit bored at certain parts of the film.

Fangirl Aladdin Movie Review

I know it’s always a risk to turn an animated film into a live-action film, but I feel like Disney really did Aladdin justice. Jafar’s character was given a more human-like appearance with his small moments throughout the moment that proved he is just an ambitious character.

Abu was just as cute as his animated self, along with Rajah keeping her fierce tigerlike personality.

Navid Negahban is the Sultan and Naomi Scott is Jasmine in Disney’s live-action ALADDIN, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Navid Negahban as The Sultan – Aladdin

The Sultan played by Navid Negahban had a more fatherlike appeal versus his animated silly self. While in the animated film, the Sultan was a silly father who was easily manipulated by Jafar. Navid Negahban did a great job of bringing to life a more protective and loving father who wanted only what was best for his daughter Jasmine.

Aladdin (Mena Massoud) and Jasmine (Naomi Scott) flee from palace guards on the streets of Agrabahin ALADDIN, a live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic.

Namoi Scott as Jasmine – Aladdin

Jasmine played by Naomi Scott was gorgeous, HELLO! Namoi rocked Jasmine and brought a real-life fighter to the forefront of this film. Aladdin played by Mena Massoud was oh my goodness so handsome and everything I wanted Aladdin to be in real life.

Call me Mena if you’re ever free! (wink). I can’t rave enough at how both of these talented people brought to life Jasmine and Aladdin perfectly.

Mena Massoud as the street rat with a heart of gold, Aladdin, and Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie in Disney’s ALADDIN, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Will Smith as Gennie – Aladdin

The film was as grand as I expected it to be, with a few new scenes and songs. While many people were upset that Will Smith would be playing Genie, I had no quarrels with him playing this part. In fact, I was happy he would be bringing a slightly different spin to Genie’s character.

With the late and GREAT Robin Williams having brought Genie to life when I was a kid, I hoped they wouldn’t tarnish that part of the film. I believe Will Smith did an amazing job at bringing Genie to life and making him just as loveable as Robin Williams did.

Nasim Pedrad is Dalia and Will Smith is Genie in Disney’s live-action ALADDIN, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Genie’s Happy Ending

I know I shouldn’t nitpick at a film that was created for the younger generation, but I have to say I was a bit sad to see some scenes changed. For example, the scene where Jafar recruits Aladdin to enter the Cave of Wonders, but most of all Genie’s Happy ending.

Don’t get me wrong though, Genie’s happy ending was a nice twist to the original and did leave an open door for a future film in my opinion. For example, in the animated film, you see Genie was freed and the 1rst thing to do on his long bucket list was to travel the world.

In the live-action remake, Genie falls in love with the handmaid and is freed by Aladdin, which is then stuck in his human form.

Genie and the Handmaid both decide they will now explore the world together on a ship which was shown in the first scene of the film. Creative in many ways, but kind of sad in this fangirl’s eyes.

I was hoping to see Genie retain his powers and still fall in love with the Handmaid. Although he never actually said he lost all his powers, he just didn’t have to attend to others’ requests anymore.

Fangirl Review Conclusion

Overall I believe this film was beautiful! It was what I wanted and my girls and bestie who attended, they said they loved it! I honestly had a moment when Jasmine and Aladdin sang their infamous A Whole New World song, and Aladdin’s part “don’t you dare close your eyes” hit me differently.

Jasmine and Aladdin’s love was displayed beautifully and it was almost like you could feel them falling in love during this scene. Maybe it’s because I’m an adult and understand love more, but I will say I teared up and couldn’t stop smiling and singing along.
